Information for patients – booking an appointment.
We want to improve access to appointments and services in the wider community. To help with this our reception staff will be asking you a little more information when booking an appointment.
Reception will now ask you “To help you make the correct appointment, I need to know a little more about why you need the appointment”
There are two main reasons for this
- It may be more appropriate to see someone else in the practice other than the GP – such as our Nurse Janette or Health Care Assistant Mandy.
- There are other services that can now be accessed without having to see your GP first (for example Pharmacy First, Physio, Treatment room, Family Planning, Money and benefits advisor)
All information asked for at reception will be treated in the strictest of confidence.
We very much hope that this system will make best use of the services available, both in the practice and in the wider community, and when you do need a GP appointment we hope this will mean there will be better availability.
Consultation is by appointment
Appointments – We offer urgent appointments with a doctor or a nurse within 48 hours of request. We offer pre-bookable and on the day appointments. Medical emergency appointments are available every day. If you need an emergency appointment you will be seen as soon as possible on that day. The surgery is open for face to face and telephone communication from Monday – Friday 8.30 – 6pm (Closed between 1 – 2pm Fridays for staff training).
We offer 10 minute appointments. If you cannot make your appointment notify the practice as soon as possible – continued non attendees may lead to removal from practice list.
Text Messaging Service
Mjog – This is a new text messaging service – to remind patients of their booked appointments. Please ensure reception staff have an up-to-date mobile telephone number. Please note you can also update your details through the Patient Access Online Service – please ask reception for further details.
It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.
If you are Late for your appointment, you may be asked to wait until the end of the doctors session or to reschedule your appointment. Please contact the practice as soon as reasonably possible to inform us if you are running late.
If you require an interpreter to attend with you when you see your Doctor please notify a member of our reception staff who will arrange this for you.
Request for GP Letters/Completion of Forms
If your Doctor has agreed to write a letter for you in connection with your employment, acting as a referee, or you wish the doctor to complete a form, you may be charged for this. Please allow at least 7 working days before collecting this. If you require this urgently please inform your Doctor during your consultation.
The reception staff will advise you of any applicable charges.
